“PETITION FOR THE MACRO”

Following the very serious situation occurred at the MACRO Testaccio which forced the Foundation Romaeuropa to stop the opening of the exhibition DIGITAL LIFE – Liquid Landscapes and waiting for the expiry of the interim management of the MACRO due on the next 30th October the need to decide the future of the museum could no longer be deferred, therefore the Association MACROAMICI decided to promote a public petition to draw the attention of the Mayor of Rome Ignazio Marino and the Councillor for Culture and Promotion of Arts of Rome Flavia Barca towards the Museum. Thanks to a high quality artistic program and the idea that art is a common good for the community the Museum has developed a profile of great cultural credibility that has become an essential asset for the art community in general and of the city.

WE WANT
1) a competent and internationally recognized management in the contemporary art sector to continue with the development and implementation of well-designed management and artistic policies so that investments in financial, human, scientific and relational resources are neither dispersed not stopped. These investments have led the MACRO to achieve major results and keep on growing thanks to an identity shaped by clear objectives and strategies.

2) A clear analysis of the management and scientific autonomy of the Museum, although it would be framed into a coordination strategy with all the other museums of the city, accompanied by a governance that complies with the standards of other national and international museums of contemporary art with a view of designing a far-reaching and continuous programming and reducing costs.

3) The certainty of a multi-annual budget that allows the museum - following the cuts in public fundings - to continue and broaden the scope of major partnership with public and private institutions, local, national and international entities in order to ensure that necessary stability is achieved. This would lead the museum to build up credibility, reliability and productivity and would produce major benefits to the territory as a whole.

WE ARE CONFIDENT THAT
1) the work done by the operational and artistic management over the last few years is not going to be frustrated. This management has given the museum an identity and an international credibility, it has developed a sense of belonging to the locality, it has become a well-known social and cultural beacon, as shown by the extraordinary growing audience, activities and affection to this institution.
We shall remind that the operational and artistic management has been stopped at least three times in a few years and it is a real miracle for us to have achieved such results.
2) that the work done is not going to be frustrated and the resources provided by the Association MACROAMICI are not lost because the love and passion for art as well as the coherence and quality in programming the activities of the museum have made it possible to achieve major results by attracting new private sponsors, supporting the learning activities and the residencies of the artists as well enhancing the collections of the MACRO.

3) that all the immense work done to establish relations on the territory with Public and Private institutions, Institutes of Culture, foreign Academies, foundations, schools and universities, artists and all those work in the field of culture for whom the Museum has become a beacon, a place of exchange and culture will not be lost.
